Des Voeux Road Central is a major road on Hong Kong Island in the Sheung Wan area, originating from late-19th-century waterfront reclamation works. Named after the tenth Governor of Hong Kong, Sir William Des Voeux, the road was built between 1890 and 1904. It connects to Queensway and Queen’s Road Central to the east, and extends westward to the Western Market area, where the Sheung Wan Market tram terminus is located. The recording was made on Des Voeux Road Central in front of Wing On Department Store. A construction site is located across the street, and continuous construction sounds can be heard. Due to the dense high-rise buildings on both sides of the road, the construction sounds produce noticeable reverberation within the space. Passing buses and trams are constantly audible, along with the sounds of passengers boarding and alighting at the nearby bus stop.
