Originally planned to be named Tai Kok Tsui Station or Cherry Street Station, the station was ultimately named Olympic Station in recognition of the outstanding performance of Hong Kong athletes at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. The recording clearly captures the beeping sound of Octopus cards tapping and the mechanical operation of the turnstiles, while the station continuously plays announcements reminding passengers to “please be careful when using the staircase”. The deep rumble of trains passing through the station combines with the conversations of the crowd and the sound of footsteps, filling the entire indoor space of the station.
